Verstappen: We need to keep our heads down

Max Verstappen may have won the 2022 Formula 1 Drivers’ Crown at the Japanese Grand Prix, but insists he and Red Bull must keep their heads down until the Constructors’ Title is secured.

Verstappen was announced as a double F1 Champion at Suzuka, after debate about whether he has scored enough points to secure it or not after winning the race as his teammate Sergio Perez finished second.

But what was sure in Japan, that Red Bull are yet to secure the Constructors’ Title and Verstappen insists that is the second target in sight, after which he can celebrate in full swing.

“It was special to secure the Drivers’ Championship in Japan,” Verstappen said ahead of this weekend’s United States Grand Prix.

“I didn’t get the chance to celebrate too much as we’re still focussed on securing the Constructors’ Championship for the Team. The ultimate goal is of course to win both, but we need to keep our heads down, it will come if we keep performing well.

“I’m looking forward to the remaining races,” he added. “It’s great to be back in Austin, I love the city and the track. Winning here last year was amazing and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this weekend.”

Perez: We have an important job this weekend

Sergio Perez played an important roles at the Japanese Grand Prix in Verstappen second Title triumph after pressuring Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc into a mistake, costing him second place, which meant the points’ gap meant the Dutchman clinched the 2022 Title.

The Mexican looked ahead to the race in Austin, and the job at hand, he said: “I am super happy to be back in Austin, it’s always fun to come here, it is one of my favourite races of the season and the atmosphere is incredible in the city and at the circuit.

“The Team is in a really good place and we have an important job to do this weekend, we want to win the Constructors’ title to go with Max’s title in Japan,” he added.

“It was a dominant display from us last time out, we got the one-two and it would be incredible to repeat that here in the US, I think the crowd would enjoy that!

“For me I want to finish the season in second place in the Drivers’ Championship so I am more focussed than ever to end the season positively and achieve some great results with the Team,” the Mexican concluded.

Red Bull won the United States Grand Prix in Austin, last year with Max Verstappen, with Sergio Perez finishing third.
