Alpine: We wish Fernando the best for his future

Alpine have issued a statement wishing Fernando Alonso the best after his move to Aston Martin was announced today where he will replace Sebastian Vettel.

Aston Martin announced early on Monday, that double Formula 1 Champion Fernando Alonso will be joining the team in 2023 replacing the retiring Sebastian Vettel alongside Canadian Lance Stroll, son of Aston Martin Chairman Lawrence.

Alpine said in the statement: “We wish Fernando the best for his future in Formula 1. Fernando has always been, and always will be, part of the Renault and Alpine family and we’re proud and privileged to have shared so many on-track moments together.”

Alonso, no on summer break after Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix, will be seeing out his current season with Alpine one the sport returns from the break starting with the Belgian Grand Prix on August 28, the first of the final nice races of the season.

Alpine added: “We look forward to finishing the remainder of the 2022 season with Fernando in blue, and we’ll keep pushing to the maximum until the final lap in November.”

Now with speculation over Vettel’s replacement at Aston Martin is over, all the focus will now be set who Alpine choose to replace the Spaniard.

The team’s reserve driver and Formula 2 Champion Oscar Piastri should be on top of the list of choices for the French team to replace the 2005 and 2006 Champion.

Alpine did not mention Alonso’ replacement in their statement but said: “The team will announce its driver line-up for the 2023 Formula 1 season in due course.”
