Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that the inaugural Miami Grand Prix will be held in May of 2022.

The race had received plenty of opposition from locals, but was officially confirmed earlier this year after an agreement was reached between the sport and the city.

The sport has been open about its desire to grow interest in the USA, with Domenicali suggesting that they could add further American races in the future.

“We are less than halfway through the 2021 season, but planning 2022 has been ongoing for some time,” the former Ferrari team principal told a recent investor call.

“There is a high demand of venues to make the 2022 calendar and we hope to announce the provisional calendar in September.

“We can confirm that the much anticipated Miami Grand Prix will happen in the first half of May. Demand for these tickets is high, even though sales have not officially started.”

It has also been confirmed that the Russian Grand Prix will move from the Sochi Autodrom to Igora Drive in Saint Petersburg from 2023.

“We also look forward to our move to Saint Petersburg for the Russian Grand Prix, beginning in 2023,” Domenicali added. “This iconic city will provide a stunning backdrop for Formula 1.”
