Lewis Hamilton is back on social media – ending an absence since his new one-year extension deal with Mercedes was confirmed last Monday – prepping for the new season and promising more Hammertime next year.
Amid speculation that this may well be the seven-times Formula 1 World Champion’s final season, even suggestions Mercedes may pull-the-plug on the team to revert to supplying power units as they did before the Silver Arrows was resurrected a decade or so ago.
Nevertheless, Hamilton is in good spirits and said as much in his latest tweet accompanied by a photo of him gazing into a cloudy sky.
He wrote: “Hey guys, sorry I’ve been absent from here for a while, I’ve been focusing and preparing for the season ahead. I consider myself lucky to have had this time to reflect and prepare.
“I remain positive and excited for the season ahead but want you all to know that I’m thinking of you out there, hoping you are well. I miss so many of you and can’t wait to hopefully see you again soon if not in person then online.
“But one thing is for sure I’ll be racing my heart out for you this year!” added the 36-year-old who this season will be hunting his eighth title and is set to reach and perhaps surpass the tally of 100 Grand Prix victories. He is on 95 currently.
Hamilton is expected to be present at the Mercedes W12 internet launch on 5 March, at the team’s ‘Filming Day’ and then preseason testing starting a week later in Bahrain.
