Alex Albon will drive an AlphaTauri-branded AF Corse-run Ferrari in DTM during the 2021 season.
The 24-year-old was dropped by Red Bull at the end of the 2020 Formula 1 season and will now act as a reserve driver for the team.
Alongside those duties, Albon is set to compete in six DTM events, with fellow Red Bull prospect Liam Lawson as a teammate. Nick Cassidy will drive in his place at the three events which clash with F1 weekends.
“DTM is a great series with highly talented drivers in the field and exciting racing,” Albon said. “I’ve only driven a ‘tin top’ once back in 2015 and they’re really different to single-seaters.
“There’s a lot less downforce and the tires are very different, so it requires a different kind of driving style.
“It will take a bit of time to get used to, but I’m looking forward to a new racing challenge when I’m available outside of my existing F1 commitments.”
The series switches to GT3 cars this season and will run nine two-race events across the year.
DTM boss Gerhard Berger added: "Both Red Bull and Ferrari are leading global players that represent absolute success in the world of motorsports and beyond.
“We are very delighted to unite these two top brands in a unique project in the DTM, where they will join forces in the effort to win the prestigious championship.
“The unprecedented collaboration of the three high-class drivers is particularly promising.
“It is the perfect mix, which will keep the excitement level high in the upcoming DTM season.”
