McLaren’s Lando Norris has apologised for comments he made over the Portuguese Grand Prix weekend, admitting he hasn’t “shown the respect I should have” to his fellow drivers.
While the 20-year-old doesn’t specify to whom he is apologising, Norris was particularly scathing in his assessment of Racing Point’s Lance Stroll after the two collided during Sunday’s race, suggesting “he doesn’t seem to learn with anything he does”.
Additionally, Norris was quite dismissive of Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1-record 92nd victory in Portugal, telling reports “it doesn’t mean anything to me” as his fellow Briton only “has to beat one or two other drivers”.
“I owe an apology,” he wrote on twitter. “I’ve been stupid and careless with some things I’ve said lately in media and interviews, and haven’t shown the respect I should have to certain people.
“I’m not that kind of person, so know I should apologise to them but also everyone reading/listening. Sorry.”
