A member of the Mercedes Formula 1 team has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of this weekend’s Eifel Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.
A spokesperson for the team said the situation was “being handled in line with FIA protocols, working closely with the FIA”, but did not reveal the identity of the individual involved.
However, it was confirmed that neither Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas tested positive.
Mercedes added that it would make any necessary adjustments to ensure this weekend’s Grand Prix preparation was not disrupted, with all 10 teams continuing to take precautions in a bid to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Brackley-based team have won eight of the 10 races during the 2020 Formula 1 season so far, with Hamilton leading teammate Bottas by 44 points at the head of the championship standings.
The Brit is looking to equal Michael Schumacher’s win record this weekend, after he failed to build on his 90 victories at the Russian Grand Prix last month.
