Roy Nissany will make his Formula 1 free practice debut this weekend with Williams in place of George Russell.
Current F2 driver Nissany last drove F1 machinery in 2019 post-season testing with Williams at Abu Dhabi. Since, he has been named as a member of the teams’ development driver programme.
On his promotion, the Nissany has said:
“I am very keen to get in the car in Barcelona. Driving an FP1 for the first time is a huge milestone for every driver, yet for me, it is also a national achievement to be carrying the Israeli flag.
“I have thoroughly been preparing for it with the team and I believe we can get great value out of it.”
The return to Catalunya will allow teams to take another look at higher downforce components after two weeks away at the juxtaposed, high-speed Silverstone.
Cycling team Israel Start-Up Nation will have logos emblazoned on the FW43 this weekend with owner Sylvan Adams the Canadian billionaire who funds Nissany’s racing career.
