Renault driver Esteban Ocon said he cannot wait to drive alongside Fernando Alonso when he joins the team for the 2021 Formula 1 season.
Ocon joined the Enstone outfit at the start of the current season but is yet to find his best form, securing just one points finish from the opening three races.
The Frenchman has struggled in comparison to his teammate Daniel Ricciardo so far, who departs for McLaren at the end of the season.
However, Ocon appears confident about the prospect of going up against two-time world champion Alonso next season.
“It was definitely great to have him in the team, Fernando is a legend,” he told Crash.
“He will have a lot with him to bring to the team. I was very happy with the news. For sure I can’t wait to get started and to be working with him. I didn’t think about it too much. Once again I’m going to try the best I can and work with the team. I know the challenges and I know Fernando is a quick guy, but I think we have a lot to play together to bring the team forward first. We will see what happens.
“I don’t know, we will see… (smiles). It’s hard to say because it’s not happened [yet].”
