The 2020 Chinese Grand Prix could find itself removed from the Formula 1 calendar after Chinese officials announced the suspension of all motorsport events in the country until April due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
The Formula 1 Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place from April 17-19 in Shanghai, could also be in danger if the quarantine period needs to be extended.
Having already caused 25 deaths with 830 infected, the Automobile and Motorcycling Federation of the People’s Republic of China (CAMF) made the announcement just weeks out from the Changbai Rally, which was set to run from February 12 to 14.
The Formula E Sanya e-Prix on March 21 would also presumably be affected, although for now no official decision has been made on the matter.
If the Chinese GP is indeed affected, it is unlikely it could be moved to a later spot in the calendar, with logistical planning for the upcoming season already well under way. Should the event be cancelled, the F1 calendar would be back to the 2019 number of a 21-race season.
