McLaren announces new corporate and Indy 500 partners

McLaren have announced new partnerships ahead of the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship season, confirming them in the two separate press releases below.

AutoNation returns as Indianapolis 500 partner with McLaren Racing

McLaren Racing is delighted to announce that AutoNation, America’s largest automotive retailer, will return as a partner for the team’s attempt at the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500. Fernando Alonso’s McLaren-Chevrolet will feature AutoNation’s branding in the world-famous 500-mile American race on Sunday, May 26.

Two-time Formula 1 World Champion Alonso competes in his second Indy 500, attempting to join Graham Hill in claiming motorsport’s Triple Crown, having already achieved victories at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix and 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fernando led the 2017 Indy 500 on several occasions before retiring in the closing stages, a race which marked McLaren’s return to Indy after a 38-year absence.

Zak Brown, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Racing, said: “It’s fantastic when a sponsor returns, and I’m delighted that AutoNation will be with McLaren again for our 2019 Indy 500 program. They were a superb partner in 2017 and we’re looking forward to building on our previous work together, at what will be a very special event for all of us.”

AutoNation Chief Marketing Officer Marc Cannon commented: “We are thrilled to be partnering again with McLaren for the Indy 500 this year. McLaren has a well-known racing pedigree, and we wish Fernando the best of luck.”

Ben Priest, Senior Vice President Americas, McLaren Racing, said: “We’re looking forward to kicking off our Indy 500 activity in the months leading up to the race in May. It is great to see AutoNation coming on this journey again having been such a great partner of ours in 2017.”

McLaren And L’Amy Take Sunglasses To The Ultimate

The McLaren of eyewear is launched today by the racing technology brand and creator of luxury high performance sports and supercars company in collaboration with leading eyewear manufacturer L’Amy Group.

Employing McLaren supercar imperatives and advanced materials to guarantee ultimate performance, the McLaren Vision Collection design has already been acclaimed with a global award for technology and innovation, months before the collection is even on sale.

McLaren Vision eyewear, available as both sunglasses and prescription spectacles, features a unique style created by L’Amy in partnership with design teams from both McLaren Automotive and McLaren Racing.

The lenses, which include the option of Leica sun lenses, are fixed within the frames at just two contact points. As well as a dramatic appearance, the “floating” structure ensures the glasses are super-light and super-strong.

Emulating McLaren cars’ use of advanced materials, the frames are 3D-printed titanium. Rotary hinges are used for comfort while a 3D facial scan allows the frames to be adapted to suit the precise dimensions of the wearer’s face.

The McLaren Ultimate Vision design is the first fruit of a global licensing agreement between McLaren Group and L’Amy Group, with the objective of extending McLaren DNA into eyewear for the first time.

Acclamation for the collaboration has come early. At the international optical industry’s annual fair SILMO Paris in September 2018, the McLaren/L’Amy range was singled out for a prized SILMO d’Or Design Award for Technology and Innovation. SILMO reported the McLaren Ultimate Vision “pushes cutting-edge technologies to perfection”.

L’Amy is a pioneering company that has been manufacturing innovative eyewear in the Jura region of France since 1810. Today it specialises in the production under licence of high-end eyewear collections for many famous global brands. All L’Amy eyewear is produced in France.

Following the first gold-award-winning preview in 2018, the trade launch of the McLaren Vision eyewear will be at MIDO – the largest international show dedicated to the global eyewear industry – in Milan on 23–25 February 2019. The collection will be available to buy from selected specialist retailers from spring 2019, more details will then be given on the full Collection.
