Hamilton: A great day for England

England enjoyed a glorious sporting Sunday as their football (soccer) team triumphed 6-1 over Panama at the World Cup, the cricket team beat Australia to wrap up a 5-0 whitewash in their one-day series and their most successful Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton powered to victory at the French Grand Prix.

Although Hamilton did not watch the game as he was preparing for the race at Le Castellet, he was thrilled to learn the result of the England versus Panama match, “It’s a great day for England. Everyone was watching and when I left the garage I saw it was 6-0 and I was like: that is fricking awesome!”

“I did the laps to the grid and when l came back in I saw it was 6-1. I’m really happy for them and l hope they can continue to perform like that. I don’t know how England would be able to take it though if we did win the World Cup. It’s been such a long, long time.”

Indeed England last won the world cup back in 1966 when it was held on their home turf. This year they have progressed to the last sixteen.

Hamilton’s victory in France was his 65th grand prix triumph and his 44th as a Mercedes driver, the 25 points earned on the day puts him top of the championship standings by 14 points after eight rounds.
