Former F1 big boss Bernie Ecclestone claims that reigning Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has lost the edge and is no longer the driver he once was.
Mercedes and their superstar driver have yet to win a grand prix this season. Hamilton himself is not happy with his own form and took time out in California to “recharge and reset” before travelling to Baku.
Ecclestone told Sky Sports, “He doesn’t seem to be the Lewis that he was before. I don’t know whether it’s me – but when you talk to him and see him act the way he acts generally, he’s not the racer he was.”
“He’s still very quick, still super talented, still a super nice guy. But maybe he just getting a little bit tired of travelling and he’s fed up with things.”
Hamilton has yet to ink a contract extension with Mercedes, but both parties have said that this is a mere formality. It is believed that Hamilton is pushing for a two-year deal and a $10-million per year pay rise.
“I thought Lewis would win every race, so I’ve been proved wrong. It would be nice to see Sebastian win because he’s a mate of mine and I support him always. So I hope he can get the job done,” added Ecclestone.
Big Question: Why is Bernie stirring the pot?
