Shortly after winning the Japanese Grand Prix, and taking a giant step towards his fourth Formula 1 world championship title, Lewis Hamilton got a look at Takumo Sato's Indianapolis 500 winner's ring and immediately declared that he wants one too.
Local hero Sato, tasked with being MC and doing the interviews on the Suzuka podium, was wearing the chunky Indy 500 champion's ring he earned after his sensational victory at the Brickyard in May.
On seeing the ring Hamilton exclaimed:, "Hey you've got some bling! Where is this from? I love that! I need that ring."
He then proceeded to talk about the race he had just won, but was not done admiring Sato's bling as he continued showing his admiration for the ring after the Japanese driver had interviewed Red Bull duo Max Verstappen (second) and Daniel Ricciardo (third).
The Mercedes driver then asked Sato, "Can I try this ring? Can I just see if it's worth me going and doing it. Is it possible to try it?"
Sato obliged, removed the ring, handed it to Hamilton who slipped it on, held up his hand showing the ring to the crowd, grinning broadly he said, "Looks pretty good."
Then congratulated Sato for his victory at this year's edition of the Indianapolis 500, and resumed talking about his own season ahead."
But the glint in his eye as he admired the Indianapolis winner's ring did not go unnoticed...
