Alonso: A very, very good season for me

Despite sixth place being his best result so far this season, Fernando Alonso is adamant he is having a strong season but admits he cannot say the same about his Honda powered McLaren team.

Reflecting on his season ahead of the summer break, Alonso said, “As a team we can’t be happy with the season so far. We were making it into Q3 normally last year, ninth/10th was our average position whereas this year we struggled a bit more.”

“On the personal side, it has been a very, very good season for me. With the 2017 cars, I’m able to drive back again to my driving style, I feel much more competitive than the previous years, I’m feeling competitive out there on the track.”

“I had the Indy 500 which was a nice experience, my karting circuit is going great, fantastic. So fantastic first half of the season.”

Meanwhile Alonso’s future remains unclear. He wants to make a decision by the end of the summer break and insists he wants to be with a winning team. SAlas there are not many of those around who want the Spaniard at this point in his career.

His realistic options are a return to Renault or stay on with McLaren Honda project, or even ditch Formula 1 altogether to race  Indycar from 2018 and beyond.

Big Question: How do you rate Fernando’s season thus far?
