Azerbaijan – in Asia – hosted the Grand Prix of Europe! What Bernie Ecclestone wanted Bernie got!
There were rumblings before the race last year that the street circuit might have been unsafe for Formula 1. And indeed during practice and qualifying some illustrious names came in close contact with the walls. But, no worries, it was an incident free Formula 1 race in which Nico Rosberg simply cruised, unhindered to claim a comfortable lights to flag victory.
Granted for some it may have been a yawn of a race, however there was intrigue in the form of radio rants by Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen, which remained talking points even after the race.
Here is a look back at the 2016 European Grand Prix, at the Baku City Circuit, ahead of the 2017 version of the race: the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the same venue.
