Sauber drivers report from day one at Silverstone

Two productive practice sessions for the Sauber F1 Team at the British Grand Prix with perfect weather conditions. In the first practice session test and reserve driver Raffaele Marciello was behind the wheel of the Sauber C34-Ferrari.

The Italian was able to test different set-ups and ran aero measurements. During the afternoon Marcus Ericsson took over the car continuing work, along with Felipe Nasr, on the race preparations.

For FP2 high and low fuel runs, as well as testing the medium and hard tyres, were on the programme.

  • 2nd practice: 18th / 1:37.327 min (37 laps)

“It’s been a productive day. As I did not do FP1, it took me some time to find a good rhythm on this technical track, but towards the end of the session I felt quite comfortable in the car. We still have to work on the set-up side in order to find a more satisfying balance for the car.”

Felipe Nasr (car number 12) Sauber C34-Ferrari (Chassis 02/Ferrari)

  • 1st practice: 11th / 1:36.855 min (20 laps)
  • 2nd practice: 16th / 1:36.822 min (23 laps)

“As expected, Silverstone is a challenging circuit for us due to its high-speed corners. From the programme side everything went well. In the morning we tested different car set-ups to find a suitable one for this high speed track, while in FP2 we also did high-fuel runs. We seem to struggle a bit on the medium tyres. Now we have to analyse the collected data to understand in which areas we can improve.”

Raffaele Marciello (car number 36) Sauber C34-Ferrari (Chassis 04/Ferrari)

  • 1st practice: 15th / 1:37.372 min (17 laps)

“It was my first time driving a Formula One car here in Silverstone. It was a bit difficult as I had a lot of oversteer, mainly at the entry to the corners. This was limiting me a bit in carrying over the speed. Overall, it was important that we completed our programme. We tested different set-ups on the car and ran aero measurements.”
