Sauber drivers report from day one in Montreal

Mixed weather conditions during both practice sessions for the Canadian Grand Prix. In the morning the Sauber F1 Team worked according to the planned schedule in dry conditions. Almost half way through FP2 the rain that was expected arrived, after which the team decided not to send its drivers Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr out again. The programme for today included set-up work and tyre comparisons.

Marcus Ericsson (car number 9) Sauber C34-Ferrari (Chassis 04/Ferrari)

  • 1st practice: 18th / 1:19.165 min (32 laps)
  • 2nd practice: 12th / 1:17.261 min (17 laps)

“In the first session we tried a set-up on the car which was not working as we expected it would – with both tyre compounds, the soft and supersofts. Nevertheless, we were able to collect more data. In the afternoon, we returned to another set-up which worked better. I am satisfied with this first day of practice in Montreal. Now we are looking forward to qualifying.”

Felipe Nasr (car number 12) Sauber C34-Ferrari (Chassis 03/Ferrari)

  • 1st practice: 16th / 1:18.948 min (30 laps)
  • 2nd practice: 17th / 1:17.751 min (21 laps)

“It was a positive day. I was not able to run many laps on a track I did not know before. It was important to cover a good amount of mileage before it started to rain. In the morning everything went according to plan. For the second free practice we made some set-up adjustments, which I felt were positive. We have some minor issues with the brakes, which I am confident we will be able to fix for tomorrow.”
