
Three Renault powered cars will line up in the top ten for tomorrow’s Canadian Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel will start his Infiniti Red Bull Racing RB10 in third position behind the two Mercedes, while Daniel Ricciardo starts sixth. Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Jean-Eric Vergne qualified in an excellent eighth.
Q1: A sunny start to Qualifying in Montreal. Pastor Maldonado was the first driver to be eliminated ; the Venezuelan pulling to a halt on an escape road as a precautionary measure. He will start in P17. The two Marussias were next out followed by Caterham’s Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson, who hit the wall and brought out the red flags a minute before the end of the session. Esteban Gutierrez did not take part in the session following an accident in FP3.
Q2: An exceptionally tight Q2 saw P5 to P16 separated by just over a second. Lotus’ Romain Grosjean will start 14th ahead of Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat. Also eliminated were Hulkenberg, Magnussen, Perez and Sutil.
Q3: Nico Rosberg beat team-mate Lewis Hamilton to pole position by under a tenth of a second. Sebastian Vettel put the RB10 into an excellent third position, just 0.6 secs from the Mercedes. Daniel Ricciardo lines up sixth, separated from his team-mate by the two Williams. Jean-Eric Vergne put a third Renault-powered car into the top ten ; the Frenchman will start eighth for the race.
