Kimi Raikkonen will drop three places on the grid for Sunday’s 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix after FIA stewards declared the Finn had impeded Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg during Q3 in Kuala Lumpur.
Championship leader Raikkonen was seventh fastest in the rain affected Sepang session., but will now start the grand prix from tenth, which means that Jenson Button (McLaren), Adrian Sutil (Force India) and Sergio Perez (McLaren) are all promoted a place up on the grid to seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.
The stewards found that Rosberg, who qualified sixth, had been unnecessarily hindered by Raikkonen between Turns 12 and 15, during the final run in Q3.
Raikkonen commented after the decision, “It’s a shame to lose the three places but it is what it is. You never know what will happen in the race – especially here – so we’ll do our best and let’s hope we have the speed to get on the podium.” (GP247)
