Feb.16 (PVM) Brazilian double world champion Emerson Fittipaldi is confident that the new Ferrari F2012 will suit Felipe Massa and expects him to fight for the title this season.

Speaking to TotalRace, Fittipaldi said, “Without a doubt Felipe will be able to adapt his style of driving to the new [2012] Ferrari, which is a better car. He will have that chance.”

The great Brazilian, who won F1 titles in 1972 (Lotus) and 1974 (McLaren) added, “The Pirelli tires have made things difficult for aggressive drivers, such as Felipe. But he is quick and has not lost any performance due to the 2009 accident.”

Fittipaldi, compared Massa’s freak Hungarian qualifying accident, with his own near fatal crash during an Indycar race at Michigan in 1996, and Nelson Piquet’s at Imola in 1987.

He said, “Massa’s accident was different to that of Nelson Piquet at Imola or mine in Michigan. He was hit on the head and passed out, it’s different. I know the psychological effects of this and it is different.”

“Felipe Massa can score great results, but this will depend on the performance of the Ferrari, but he has a chance to challenge for the title as he has done before,” predicted the 65 year old.
