Jan.17 (PVM) Traditionally in January, before Formula 1 engines are fired up and cars driven in anger, speculation intensifies with regard to who will have the best car this season and for 2012 logic suggests that the Red Bull RB8 will be the car to beat, but team boss Christian Horner believes the truth will only come out in qualifying at the season opener in Melbourne.

Speaking at the Autosport International Show, Horner said, “It is always difficult to tell at this time of year. It’s the month of January and we don’t see any of the other teams so there are obviously bits of speculation that float around and snippets that come out here and there.”

“We are focused on keeping our heads down and it only matters what happens in Melbourne. I think we have proven to be adept at changing to different regulations, but we don’t underestimate McLaren and Ferrari or even Mercedes. We will only know where we are when the fuel comes out of the car in qualifying in Melbourne in eight or nine weeks’ time,” explained the Red Bull F1 boss.

Official pre-season testing begins on Tuesday,  7 February, at Jerez de la Frontera with the Australian Grand Prix, in Melbourne, kick starting the 2012 season on the weekend of 16-18 March.
