The FIA press conference schedule released ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend had Pat Fry down to represent Ferrari at the Friday afternoon session, but it was James Allison who turned up instead thanks to a misunderstanding claims the team’s press office.

When asked for an explanation for the switch and whether Fry was still with the team, the Ferrari press officer responded: “It appears you do not have a lot of information regarding F1.”

And added, “I can confirm that Pat Fry, our Engineering Director, is working for Ferrari and that the FIA has called James Allison. There has been a misunderstanding about the initial spokesperson for this Friday.”

Fry has been in a a number of posts since he joined the Maranello outfit in 2010 as Assistant Technical Director, before replacing Chris Dyer as Head of Race Track Engineering while retaining his Assistant Technical Director under Aldo Costa. The latter was marginalised in 2011 and Fry was given the job as Director of Chassis and in mid-2013 he was made Engineering Director.

Speculation has been rife about Fry’s future with the Italian legends amid recent high profile departures from Maranello and team principal Marco Mattiacci making it known recently that Allison was in charge of the team’s 2015 F1 project. (GP247)
