Although we reported that Ferrari head of engine and electronics, Luca Marmorini, had departed the team three weeks ago the Maranello outfit have only now announced this development.

The team released the following statement: “Ferrari announces that, as of today [Tuesday], Luca Marmorini, director of the engine and electronics department, is leaving the company. As part of the restructuring of the Power Unit department, Mattia Binotto will assume the role of chief operating officer.”

Marmorini, the architect of the team’s woeful V6 turbo power unit, is a high level departure from the team following in the wake of Stefano Domenicali’s resignation as team principal in April this year. He was succeeded at the helm by Marco Mattiacci who is in the process of restructuring the team. .

Meanwhile the team confirmed that technical director James Allison remains ultimately responsible for car design: “James Allison, technical director, continues to be responsible for the entire car project, supported by Nikolas Tombazis, chief designer chassis, and Lorenzo Sassi, chief designer power unit.” (GP247)
