Jenson Button is wary of Red Bull, predicting that when the world champions get to grips with the problematic RB10 they will again be a force to be reckoned with.
When asked if he was surprised that Daniel Ricciardo set the third fastest time on day two of testing in Bahrain, Button replied, “Not really, because I think if that car goes round it will be quick – it’s just getting it around [that has been Red Bull’s problem].
Ricciardo’s best time was over a second faster than Button’s best. The Briton explained, “Ricciardo was running on the Soft tyres and I was running on Medium, which makes quite a difference.”
“So my guess is that if they can complete a race distance they will be competitive. And never write off Red Bull. If they can put some laps together you can see their pace.”
“We are quicker on the straight line and I am sure they know that. We so far were concentrating on driveability – something we definitely didn’t have last year. Now we’ve got that. To be fair, putting downforce on that car is not the easiest thing, but it is easier than building in driveability with downforce.”
“I am not worried about where we are – we do need more downforce, but it is coming!” declared Button
