Although Paul di Resta’s Formula 1 career and his three season stint with Force India is over, the Scot could be in line for a reserve role with Mercedes as he returns to the team’s DTM campaign for 2014.

Mercedes had previously appointed Sam Bird to be their nominated reserve, but Di Resta may be at thetop of a very short list should anything prevent Nico Rosberg or Lewis Hamilton from competing.

Di Resta is not giving up on his F1 ambitions. He told British members of themedia, “I am sad to go but I have had three tremendous years and I’m not leaving because I didn’t perform, there are other issues. I am still young enough to get back in there if the opportunity comes up.”

“Mercedes are well aware that [Formula 1] is where I want to be, and I have their full support,” added Di Resta.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes motorsport boss said, “Paul Di Resta has been a member of the Mercedes-Benz family for many years, and we are delighted that he is returning to the fold this season to further strengthen our DTM squad.”

“Paul has learned a lot during the past few years in Formula 1,” added Wolff.

Di Resta made 58 grand prix starts as a Force India driver and scored 121 points in the process. He made his debut at the 2011 Australian GP and his last race was at the 2013 Brazilian GP. (GP247)

Umm, you are leaving because you didn’t perform. You crashed out of multiple races, drove uninspiring races many times and never found the limit without going beyond the limit. If you can’t see that then you don’t deserve to be in F1. Bye bye.

After beating team mate vettel in gp2, I think diresta lost confidence driving midfielders, while vettel won and won and won. Frustration set it. Frustration leads to errors.

    Errors lead to anger

    Anger leads to hate.

Hate leads to the dark side

    Funny :/ I read it with Yoda’s voice D:

  • F1 sucks now

because he used to beat Vettel in gp2 that does mean he could had been good in F1, it’s like : ( another sport , like football ) how many heisman trophy winners has sucked in the nfl and how many free agents ( mr. nobody in college has been so good in the nfl ) same happened in racing , F1 is ( or used to be ) the pinnacle of motorsport , this beast is totally different to gp2 or dtm or F3 or F renault , like martin brundell used to be head to head with Senna in f3 and in F1 well we know how different carrers that they got
