Although Williams endured one of the worst seasons in their illustrious history in 2013, double F1 World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi believes that fellow Brazilian Felipe Massa could provide the catalyst for the team to return to the front of the field.

Speaking to TotalRace, Fittipaldi said, “Felipe can do very well next year, because of the new rules, and Williams has vast experience, the ability to be one of the big teams again. No doubt, Williams is a power in Formula 1.”

“They are going through a difficult time, but various teams go through this type of phase. For example McLaren, no one expected them to be so bad this year. Williams are motivated and Felipe is motivated. He will be the team leader.”

Massa, 32, was axed by Ferrari after a nine year stint with the team. He will start his 192nd grand prix when he lines up on the grid in Melbourne for the 2014 season opener. (GP247)

I don’t believe williams has what it takes anymore. They are just not talented enough to deliver a decent car. And yes, I would absolutely love to be proven wrong, but I think marrusia and caterham could catch them in a few years.

I vote Williams gets double points every race!!!

Seriously, Williams is a technical powerhouse and now have a great driver pairing and engine partner, plus the very clever Pat Symonds. If there is one team capable of shocking the field and jumping up in performance it’s Williams.

I still have my hopes up that they can get Brawn to join, even though Honda has a dumptruck full of cash waiting for him in 2015.

Axing Maldonado says a lot about Williams’ ambitions in F1. Nothing short of being the champions they used to be.

It seems that Maldonado has such a bad aura that everywhere he goes things seem to deteriorate at instant..

I hope the colour in the world of Williams returns, and that the gray tainted shadow of Crashtor will take it out of Lotus.

Seriously Massa has no juice left in his batteries. Ferrari drained it out in these last nine years. Or else they would have never dumped him.

Never underestimate to guile and knowledge of Pat Symonds – the new Chief Technical Officer at Williams – although I utterly hate what he did at in Singapore 2008 (crashgate) with Piquet and Flabio while at Renault – the guys is one clever motherf*$ker when it comes to Tech & Strategy in F1 – Frank’s no fool – employing him is master stroke – the fact that Williams were prepared to welcome Symonds into the fold with the risk of that decisions tainting their own excellent reputation/name in F1 proves speaks volumes for his talents.

Proved it last year when, after taking time to take stock and analyse things at Williams, one of the first things he did was get rid of Mike Coughlan’s failing miserably Coanda effect exhaust the result of which was an immediate improvement in lap time and a 8th place finish in the USA GP
