Lotus apologises after telling Kimi to get out of the f*cking way

Lotus apologised on Monday for bad language in a heated exchange with their driver Kimi Raikkonen during the Indian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Buddh International Circuit.

Trackside operations director Alan Permane was heard on the team radio using a profanity to order the Finn, who had worn tyres and overheating brakes, to move over and let teammate Romain Grosjean through for third place.

Expletives were exchanged across the pitwall-to-car: “Kimi, get out of the f*cking way.”

“Don’t f*cking shout at me,” responded Raikkonen.

Raikkonen, who famously told his team over the radio last year to leave him alone because he knew what he was doing, replied with some choice words of his own.

“Romain was two seconds per lap faster than Kimi at that time, so it was not even a team order,” team principal Eric Boullier told the team’s website.

“With hindsight, this radio message could have been sent in a less emotional way. There was a lot of tension, a lot of potential technical problems, and some of the words that flew around were simply not appropriate,” added the Frenchman.

“I know that quite a few people were surprised and I can only apologise for that on behalf of the team. It won’t happen again.”

Grosjean has finished third in the last three races while Raikkonen’s form has tailed off since the 2007 World Champion, seventh on Sunday, announced that he was leaving to rejoin Ferrari next season.

The Frenchman had to go off track to avoid a collision with his teammate as he tried to pass and was critical of him afterwards.

“We could have lost two cars. Honestly, I don’t know – it’s not my problem. I overtook him and thankfully we did not lose any points,” he told Sky television.

GMM reports that Permane received death threats against himself and his family in the wake of the radio message, ostensibly from angry Raikkonen fans. (Reuters)

Now look at that picture with the cars and tell me. With all the millions invested into small aerodynamic optimization. WTF do Lotus have those ears on the side of the air-intake. DDRS did not work last year, it was tried for a race this year…yet they have this drag there….shows how serious they are about winning.

  • Mark

    Permane is a f*cking idiot.

  • McLarenfan

What has the team got to apologize for I hate to say it but FOM took the word out also Kimi had his say and I think Kimi can get his point across his way.

  • Alonso_is_Slow

    Kimi’s true colours…..

No need to apologize. He’s always been a lazy jerk who loses interest as soon as he’s upstaged.

  • Ankit

    @Alonso_is_Slow

This is a miracle! For the first time ever you haven’t used Alonso’s name in your comment. Your comment is Alonso-free. WOW! Oh wait, it’s in your stupid name.

  • sf4everyone

The ears remain present because they were designed into the homolgated chassis and therefore cannot be removed without making a new chassis and going through all the FIA crash tests again in order to re-homologate which would be pointless.

Also, the ears wouldn’t really create much drag, they’re pretty neutral in design otherwise they wouldn’t be very good ducts would they? Also, they probably help keep the airflow attached to the engine cover aft of the airbox which means less dirty air to be cleaned up by the rear wing meaning greater efficiency at the back of the car.

Permane: “Kimi, get out of the f*cking way.” Kimi: “Pay me my f*ucking money and I’ll get out of the f*cking way.”

Alonso is slow is apparently watching the race backwards

I would suggest the real issue here is some people are literally writing a man death threats over a radio message.

  • SteveO

Lol, maybe if they paid him to listen…
    – just kidding.

I do wonder though what the points gap between Kimi and Romain would be if Grosjean ignored his team orders!

  • Boycottthebull

They swore at him and he swore back no big deal. I have seen worse mouthed at snooker tournaments, its sport and people get trashy mouthed. It wasnt that long ago Kimi was threatening to bash another drivers face in so I think he is a big enough boy to be told to get out of the f..ng way LOL Ever since his big pay contract with Ferrari though he has gone off the boil. I think his mind is elsewhere with which case its fair he should get out of the way so his teammate can get on the podium. Massa would have gotten it if he had kept being silly.

  • sebolonso

Permane is a liar. Twitter account has been checked. No threat for his family there. This guy is a walking nightmare.

  • Snowman

    @Sebolonso

You honestly don’t think the messages will have been removed?

  • Ukwhite

    Typical Kimi.
