Da Costa sad and hurt as Formula 1 dream now on hold 22 October, 2013 Antonio Felix da Costa Not long ago Antonio Felix da Costa was the hottest property on the fringes of Formula 1 and apparently heading for a race seat with Toro Rosso in 2014, but the unexpected appointment of Russian teenager Daniil Kvyat has put the dream on hold. “It hurts, and today I am sad as are many others in Portugal, but I will keep working together with Red Bull to get into F1,” said Da Costa in the wake of the announcement. “I believe I am ready to step up, but the decision [has been] made,” he added. Kvyat’s promotion from GP3 and F3 ranks is considered a risk but at the same time reportedly brings the promise of sponsorship from Russia who are increasingly becoming involved in the sport ahead of the country hosting their first grand prix in Sochi next year. Shortly before the announcement, F1 test driver Luiz Razia revealed mischievously on Twitter: “It is reported that the second seat at Toro Rosso is for sale. It’s been like that for years! Eevel Antonio Felix da Costa hasn’t exactly set the world alight with his performances of late so maybe that’s made it more attractive for Toro Rosso to take a chance on someone that is getting the results albeit in a ‘more junior’ category. Especially if that risk comes with sponsorship. Toro Rosso is after all a training ground for young talent so why not see what the Russian can do? BoycotttheBoycott Lol it’s Toro Rosso. How did Da Costa think it would turn out? He should count his blessings and sign with anyone that will have him… gp2/3, test driver, anything is better than Toro. Except “Lotus”.
