Massa: I know both Fernando and Kimi but I’m afraid that they will collide at Ferrari 18 September, 2013 Felipe Massa will leave Ferrari at the end of 2013 Felipe Massa, whom Ferrari have axed, and replaced with Kimi Raikkonen for 2014, is predicting fireworks within the team between the Finn and Fernando Alonso. The Brazilian should know as he has been teammate to both. Speaking to TV Globo Massa claimed, “I know both Fernando and Kimi on and off the track.I rate them as excellent drivers, but I’m afraid they will collide when teamed up together at Ferrari.” “I told the [Ferrari] chiefs to breathe as much as possible while they still can because it will be hard for them to breathe next season,” ventured the Brazilian who has won 11 times for Ferrari. Felipe Massa on the Barcelona podium with Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso Massa and Raikkonen were teammates at the Maranello outfit from 2007 to 2009. Thereafter Alonso joined the team and Massa has had his role reduced to number two in the current line-up. “I am pretty sure Fernando likes me. We have a nice relationship. I am sure he sees me as a personal friend, as I see him like that too,” ventured Massa. He added, “Kimi and I are also good friends, I think much more than when we were teammates.” Massa has been subservient to Ferrari team orders over the past years, and although he may be expected by the team to continue with the support role to Alonso’s title ambitions, Massa has other plans. Felipe Massa in the Ferrari F138 “I will not race for Alonso from now on. Right from Friday at Singapore I’ll be working for myself. I will attack all the time, every lap. It’s come the time to look after myself,” declared Massa. The stance contradicts what Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo is expecting of the Brazilian in his final seven races for the Scuderia, “They say he won’t help Fernando? Please! He will definitely do so, giving us a hand for the Constructors’ and Alonso for the Drivers’ Championship.” Interesting times lie ahead at Ferrari – long term and short term…(GP247) Subbed by AJN. LotusFan Massa got way too long a rope at Ferrari for 5 seasons and was lucky to keep his seat. For him to talk as if he wasn’t performing because he had to yield to Alonso is nonsense. Lotus pls dont hire him. Sean @Ahmet @LotusFan It’s the most widely accepted truth in F1 that Massa was there to support Fernando. Oh what short memories we have, unless your new to the sport, but you would know that anyway! Lets just see what adds can do over the rest of the season! Alonso_is_Slow I hope they will collide! hillside there’s no collision that will happen. Filipe knows that one will choke and the other one will dominate pippo no collision, Kimi accepted a 2nd drive role The Pessimist Ferrari’s signing of Kimi Raikkonen for 2014 and beyond may have wider and potentially negative consequences for Fernando . Agreed, Fernando is not happy with the car and wants to win races for himself and for the team but hey do not forget that Ferrari are not in Formula one for more than 60 years just to make up numbers or to finish Second. They are here to win too and were always a step ahead when it came to employing the best minds and technology. Some times things don’t pan out the way you wish inspite of your best efforts and by signing James Allison and Dirk de Beer Ferrari have shown what their intentions are. If Fernando does not change his attitude and with Kimi as team mate next year I seriously doubt Ferrari honouring his contract until 2016 and the result would be Fernando out and Vettel in by 2015. ku I think Luca Montezemolos comparison of Kimis 2d stint to Laudas 2nd stint (widely translated in the media as Kimi can beat Alonso) suggests that there is no number one driver, atleast until one gets the upper hand. Dr. Azlan The driver who can get the engineers working to his taste will become the No 1. Its never easy for a newcomer to get his way. fools This driver pairing will only create a stronger team. It is imperative that the team and and team management control both these drivers as they are the icons of the team now. This is going to be epic and i can only imagine this is a positive thing for Ferrari and the drivers to get better and better and finally defeat Vettel and challenge RB for the WDC and Constructors. With a new blend of development ahead. Turbos back from the 80′s this will be fun and exciting. I wish more tires companies would be involved though. Make it interesting. No refueling because it can cause hectic fires and blow ups on the turbos. Alonso for the 2013+ WDC! fools This driver pairing will only create a stronger team. Alonso for the 2013+ WDC! michael schumacher Alonso will not know what hit him……..he will run to press as he did when he was at Renault. Ferrari have spent over $120million just to get back what they already had. I hate Alonso but have been Ferrari fan since before he was even born……I hope Kimi destroys him and runs him out…he is a stain on that team. Lost all respect for Luca day they signed him……remember he is Driver X in all the crap regarding Singapore crash and the Mclaren/Ferrari I.P. issue. Short-fill car for twelve laps and you (Alonso) didnt question that? He knew all along……. harry harris Sad of loosing a driver like you, you have shown your obedient to the team all these years. But i think it is the time for you to move on. Best of luck for you in the future…….. F1 Neutral Massa comes from a long list of drivers that seem to be able to put together maybe one or two perfect race weekends but are unable to sustain the consistency. Webber, Ralf, Montoya, Rubens, Irvine, Fisichella, Trulli etc etc. None really and truly deserving of the title of former world champion. Although Massa is spoken about as “the world champion in 2008 for 10 seconds” I think people need to look back on that season and see how many unfair penalties Lewis was given, just to keep the championship alive until Brazil. The last lap of that race was Bernie’s dream come true. realf1fan Some on here being a bit hard on Massa and Ferrari. I think Ferrari showed great loyalty to Massa after his accident in 2009. Its obvious that he has not been the same driver since the accident but credit to Ferrari for just not discarding him and gave him a chance to try to get back to his best which really has not happened but credit where it is due. As for Kimi and Alonso, I dont think there will be an issue as Alonso is well aware of Kimi’s talent unlike in 2007 when he came up against a rookie who he thought could not match him, the rookie went on to become the greatest rookie ever and the result was Alonso lost it just because he did not know what talent awaited him at Mclaren. Hawk @Michael Schumacher It’s a given you are Schumi’s fan. But please stop using a popular drivers name spewing your vitriol by hating on other drivers. You even dare to use Schumi’s name to disrespect LdM. Would Schumi ever do that? You people who hate sportsmen have no business in sport.
