Red Bull U-turn on driver announcement at Spa 20 August, 2013 Christian Horner with Helmut Marko Helmut Marko has backtracked on an earlier statement, declaring that Red Bull will in fact not announce its 2014 driver lineup this weekend in Belgium. Earlier, amid reports the world champion team has decided to promote Daniel Ricciardo to replace the Le Mans-bound Mark Webber, Marko told Germany’s Sport Bild that “we will make an announcement at Spa”. After Hungary the world champions also indicated that they would be making an announcement regarding the 2014 driver line-up after the summer break. But on Tuesday, the Austrian was quoted by SID news agency: “We will express ourselves when the time comes, and that will definitely not be at Spa.” Meanwhile Kimi Raikkonen’s manager Steve Robertson said that talks with Red Bull had ended. Rumours now suggest that the 2007 world champion is now more likely to return to Ferrari in 2014. Marko did not want to comment. “What we will do will be the best for the team, in the medium term,” said team owner Dietrich Mateschitz’s right-hand man. (GMM) Subbed by AJN. Hawk me too.. fireworks.. Tamburello_1994 He (Raikkonen) shouldn’t have been shown the door in the first place. It’s gonna be difficult to get Montezemolo to admit that. It would have been very interesting to see how this all would of played out had Robert Kubica still been in the mix. Very interesting indeed. pfft Kubica would’ve been 2012 champ. Raikonnen would be just as in 2008/09 =El Presidente= Ok, i think most the ‘journalists’ are forgetting Raikkonen’s most obvious, and most likely option…. STAY at Lotus.. On the topic of RBR, they were very keen on Kimi (apperantely) and now there are 2 more scenario’s to me. 1) Kimi is actually still negotiating with RBR, and to say the talks are over, is just a way to apply more pressure on RBR. 2) Maybe they are no too sure about Daniel, and they want to see how Eric Vergne devellops over the next races (since Eric is the beter one of the 2) to see if Eric might pull out something of his hat. Sunshine117 You can not honestly believe JEV is better than Ricciardo. The guy has had two good races since season started. Ricciardo has has about 5 or 6 decent place finishes. Ricciardo has proven he is way more consistent then his team mate. JEV will one great race then his next he will finish like 17th or 18th. He’s way to inconsistent to be taken seriously. If you had said he is equally has good as Ricciardo I would have maybe agreed. But better then ricciardo ? No way, you got rocks in ur head champ… Sunshine117 It’s kinda like saying Webber is better than Vettel. Alonso_is_slow I hope Raikkonen will go to Ferrari and not replace Massa, but Alonso. David L JEV says that he was upset that it was Ricciardo who gets the place of Webber. Looks like he has been told something already !
