Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has agreed to a deal with energy drinks tycoon Dietrich Mateschitz for a grand prix at the renovated and relaunched Red Bull Ring in 2014.

The energy drink company, headed by Austrian billionaire and Formula 1 team owner Mateschitz, stunned the F1 world with the news that was delivered via a brief statement early on Tuesday.

Austria last hosted a grand prix, held at the same Spielberg circuit then known as the A1-Ring, in 2003.

“Dietrich Mateschitz and Bernie Ecclestone have reached an agreement to the effect that F1 will return to Styria next year,” Tuesday’s statement read.

However, subsequent media reports, including by the German news agencies SID and DPA, clarified that the race will in fact only take place on July 6 next year if “all necessary regulatory approvals” are given. (GMM)

    about damn time!

Thank god it’s not at some Tilke cookie cutter track in Thailand, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, or some other god awful place with no F1 following. Yes, I realize Tilke redesigned this track completely but somehow he’s gotten this one right… But, even a blind squirrel finds a nut eventually. Maybe bring back Imola or Magny-Cours next and abandon that terrible Korean track or the hopelessly boring Yas Marina Circuit. And not to mention India, it’s an utterly terrible circuit with no flow to it at all!

Should have never been scraped in the first place.

    Another European race.
To TYLERC – It is not the track that makes racing boring it is the way the race is run by those who are competing. YMC has seen plenty of good racing and overtaking – just look at 2012 race where Vettel started in PL and finished on the podium. Have we seen that kind of racing at any venue in Europe in recent years. There are a number of European races that I could also rate as boring but I will not. Overtaking, skillful driving and the like make for a great race not just the track.

But unfortunately Mr Eclerston prefers dirty laundry money from some countries or massive TV contracts and forgets about the genuine people who really loves the sport.
And then shoes his ugly face next to harrods wen people try to take a pic of him
Bring the sport to the real fans!
I what to see the genuine f1 races as before!
Not in places were people don’t apreciate the real thing!
Bring back some of the nostalgia!
Europe is always N1 for the sport. Any of motor sport!
And mr Eclerston… Pls smile for yours and the f1 fans:))
