Vettel pays tribute to Red Bull staff with special helmet design 30 June, 2013 Sebastian Vettel’s special Silverstone edition helmet featuring Red Bull staff mugshots Apart from this special weekend when they get a chance to come to a race and cheer on the race team’s efforts, for our Milton Keynes-based factory crew supporting Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel is pretty much the same as for most fans – the sofa, some snacks and the TV remote. It’s scant reward for all the amazing work that goes on behind the scenes, so to celebrate the sheer hard graft the factory people do in order to keep the race crew at the cutting edge of competitiveness, Seb has this weekend decided to pay them a little tribute. And what’s the best method for Seb to do that – why with a helmet design of course! For his seventh design of this season the triple world champ has decorated his lid with the faces of everybody who works at the factory as a small thank you. That’s over 500 images to be scanned in and arranged in an aesthetically pleasing pattern but still leaving room for those all important sponsor logos. All we can say is we’re hoping Seb’s helmet designer Jens Munser is getting well paid! We asked a few of our factory-based crew back at base what Seb’s lid for Silverstone meant to them: “Having always wanted to drive around Silverstone in an F1 car, I never anticipated it would happen on Seb’s head! It’s really great and a nice touch.” – IT Helpdesk Team Leader Nimesh Kota. “It’s a real pleasure to have my face on Seb’s helmet for this race!” – Composite Race Support Technician Mike Worley. “ It’s always good to get a-head in the competition” – Senior Analyst Sarah Chandler. “I’m flattered to be on Seb’s mind.” – Student Placement Richard Wood. “It will be fantastic to be able to experience a lap of Silverstone on the shoulders of the world champion” – Strategy Engineer Hannah McMillan.
