Report links Ford with F1 turbo era return

Ford badgeSpeed Week has named Ford as a potential candidate to return to Formula 1 after the new V6 trubo engine rules become de rigeur in 2014.

Honda, having pulled out at the end of 2008, has already announced its return with McLaren in 2015, but Toyota and BMW have denied speculation they are also tempted by the sport’s incoming, automobile industry-relevant engine rules.

Speed Week, however, is now mentioning Ford.

Ford bought Sir Jackie Stewart’s team in 1999, rebranding it Jaguar Racing, but pulling out of Formula 1 at the end of 2004.

The Milton Keynes based team was subsequently sold to current champions Red Bull. (GMM)

Renault: Caterham, Torro Rosso, Red Bull
    Mercedes: Mercedes, , Force India,
    Honda: McLaren,
    Ferrari: Marussia, Ferrari,

So, if FORD come back for 2015 and they manage to get at least 2 of the teams from the “unknown” category, then it makes sense. But they need to move really fast.

If the teams from the “unknown” category sign contracts now for a new engine deal, then they would definitely do so on a multi-year basis as all the engine suppliers are looking for such multi-years deals.

So who would Ford end up supplying? Would it make sense for them to return?

Remains to be seen, but unless something is already being worked on behind the scenes (contracts, etc), then I doubt Ford will come back to F1.

And if they come back, would their engines be built by Cosworth? That would make sense. It’s been done in the past.

Williams has already announced it will use Merc engines as from 2014/2015 (i thought 2015)

Lotus is likely to stick with Renault, although it has not yet been confirmed i believe for 2015 and on.

Sauber will stay with Ferrari engines if im not mistaken.

But about williams im 100% sure, they just announced their cooperation with Merc
