Danica admits she has never been really interested in F1

Nascar driver Danica Patrick has played down suggestions she might switch to Formula 1 in the future.

Speculation the 30-year-old American could have a future on the grand prix grid was kindled by her high-profile pole position for Nascar’s premier Sprint Cup opener at Daytona.

Red Bull‘s Dr Helmut Marko was quoted by Bild newspaper as saying while Patrick is not “on the top ten” of his list of promising F1-worthy candidates for the future, he would offer her a test.

According to Austria’s Kleine Zeitung newspaper, Patrick described Marko’s offer as “nice” but insisted: “I do not need to be in formula one to have a full life.”

She said she has “never been really interested” in exploring any F1 options.

“It is speculation in the media,” she added, “but it has never been seriously discussed.”

That is despite Williams test driver Susie Wolff admitting recently that Bernie Ecclestone is “massively pushing” for a female driver to be on the F1 grid.

“At some point I think in the future we will definitely see it happen,” she said last week. (GMM)

yes, of course it will happen, like it happend before.. and they will fail again like they all did before.

One just needs to look at public roads to see why woman are no succesfull racers..

    =woman can not drive=

  • fapper

sorry to danica patrick fans. she has no potential in F1 in my own opinion. touring cars? maybe….

  • Tamburello_1994

    Never heard of her.

  • Bec

Good, F1 doesn’t need bikini models.

  • McLarenfan

Hate to say it but even though Danica is good she is not outstanding and she is not what F1 needs for a woman driver to top out in F1 she needs to have the dedication of Susie Wolff, Lewis, Alonso, with a bit of the Kimi twist

  • Apex Assassin

    Thank god.

I don’t know why everyone is always trying to link Danica to F1. Her skills and mentality made her respectable in open wheelers on ovals, but she was never considered particularly good on road courses. And last time I checked, F1 was all road courses.

  • fools

she hasnt proved to anyone she can win. she is just PR for woman to support NASCAR and its funding.

  • messele

The elephant in the room may be her gender but more significant I feel is her age.

There’s no way she a mild amount of oval success could translate into guaranteed F1 competitiveness.

It wasn’t so long ago that Michael Andretti was hailed as the American who was going to show how it was done and look how that turned out.

  • Rich

Oddly enough, we aren’t very interested in her being in F1, either.
And Odd Lord, you are an ignorant tool.

  • james

dumb bitch only she could never be as as good as 90% of the drivers

  • Aremkay

All of the comments on gender are ridiculous. Danica was in pole position out of 38 drivers so she is clearly of a high standard. The comments on driving on oval tracks are all fair though…

F1 is and always has been more than driving ability. There is a daily argument about pay drivers on the grid taking spaces that could have been filled by fantastic drivers who didn’t have the funding. Money and marketing are a massive part of F1 and any other global sport and it is that factor that could get Danica in to a car at the pinnacle of motorsport.

  • Nowhereman

I agree that she could not cut it but, she would look awful nice doing a skin spread camera session laying on top of that F 138…

  • A Finn

Danica surely wouldn’t cut it in the F1 grid but in the Pits on open wheelers but one Finn at least approved her behind the tire racks back in the day ;) She sure likes Ice or hates nowadays for being rejected ?? ;)

  • Thank God

What has she really done? She has had top flight equipment and has failed to deliver. All her years in Indy Car which Tony George destroyed, she lucked into one win in all her starts and that was because of fuel mileage not because she was fighting for the win.

As for NASCAR, she failed in Nationwide series and if all the drivers who entered the races where getting points she would have ended up down in 20 something place in the season standings and again she had top flight equipment.

As for her Sprint cup ride, again top flight equipment, but at Daytona and Talladega I would not put it past NASCAR to allow her an advantage with the plate or even the new fuel injection ignition boxes so she would have the fastest car.

Look at the in car camera showing her driving. Daytona and Talladega is such a joke, you steer straight, then you barely turn the steering wheel to the left and back straight again. It is not like any one of the drivers are having to work the steering wheel. Harry Gant said it best several years ago, at Daytona and Talladega it is 10% driver 90% car. Hell a trained monkey could drive at those two tracks.

How does such a third rate driver get top flight equipment everywhere she goes yet has nothing to show for it all these years. What male driver at 30 years old gets these breaks that she has gotten? NONE.
