Rosberg: I look forward to working with Lewis to make this the best F1 team 4 February, 2013 Nico Rosberg does some photography during the Mercedes W04 launch at Jerez Nico Rosberg welcomes his mate Lewis Hamilton to the Silver Arrows team adding an interesting dynamic to their relationship, which dates back to their junior years in karting, with both drivers keen to work together to make Mercedes successful in Formula 1. Nico Rosberg in the cockpit of the Mercedes W04 Speaking at the launch of the Mercedes W04 Rosberg said, “Of course, I have a new team-mate with Lewis. It’s his first time in the Silver Arrow and I look forward to working together and pushing each other hard, to make this the best team in Formula One.” For the past two years Rosberg has partnered Michael Schumacher, where he generally got the better of the seven time F1 World Champion. Last year he also scored his first grand prix win, in China. This year he is preparing to up the ante and reveals that he has been working hard on on his fitness during the off-season. “I’ve been working really hard over the winter on my physical preparation, both in the mountains – climbing to over 2 000 metres with ski boots – and also in the Mediterranean, training on my bike, swimming and running,” explained Rosberg who has started 128 grands prix. Nico Rosberg drives the Mercedes W04 at Jerez He added, “I fitted that around regular visits to see the guys at the factory in December and January and we have done some really good work, especially in the simulator.” “The car seems to be performing well in the virtual world but we have a very busy and intense programme ahead of us during testing to make sure we can deliver that performance on track. The atmosphere in the team is very positive and the people are highly motivated to succeed,” affirmed the German. Rosberg was the first to sample the new W03 when he embarked on a session of on track filming at Jerez. He will also be the first in action when pre-season testing kicks off tomorrow.
