Alonso calls for fewer races and more testing

Fernando AlonsoFernando Alonso has added his voice to growing calls for more Formula One testing, while lamenting the length of the 20 race season.

Speaking to media during the Wrooom event at Madonna di Campiglio, the 2012 world championship runner-up said, “Last year we had the last grand prix at the end of November and almost right up to Christmas, there were events I had to take part in. There’s almost only the end of year holiday when one can have a break and I’ll try to fit in a few more days between now and Melbourne to recharge my batteries.”

Alonso added, “Twenty races is a lot and it’s not easy to maintain a maximum performance level, both physical and mental, for the whole year. Maybe it would be better to have one or two fewer races and a few more test sessions.” (GP247)

    That’s not very fan friendly.

    He is right though; people need to realise that even though all these drivers, engineers, crews and staff are all facinating to behold, they’re still human; they need rest, otherwise they’ll push themselves to exhaustion.

    He’s right and sooner or later, it will happen.
    This is F1, not the WWF on wheels called NASCAR.

    it’s the travel

    Does this guy even know how much more time testing will take to do?Im think its going to be much longer than making a race anyway he should stop been so lazy!and why is he hiding his face away anyway?and nowhereman is right this is not the WWFF on wheels called Nascar.Am i not right nowhereman?

    @Matthew
    Except that testing is even more tiring, at least from what I’ve heard and read?
    I suppose I do understand what Alonso meant by saying that he isn’t good at politics….Just my thought.

    I’ll definate vote for more testing time for the guys yes!! Can anyone see the drivers & cars on the simulators?? What I would hope for is that races return to countries who really love F1 & actually go and watch the Grands Prix!!
    Cannot see how empty stands can really be positive to the sport?

    Even as a fan, keeping up with the practices, the quali and the race 20 times a year was too much specially when it comes to different time zone.
    Even though love watching F1 all the time, but I can imagine the stress of each person in each team…let alone the logistics behind traveling…but then “money talks”.
    Also yes would vote for more testing…not every wind tunnel and simulator is as accurate when it comes to final results…a mix of more testing will help lots of teams and drivers…Kimi hates simulators….it makes him sick
