Marko wants Hulkenberg to replace Webber in 2014 4 January, 2013 Jan.4 (GMM) Mark Webber looks set to struggle again to keep his Red Bull race seat beyond the end of the forthcoming season. Granted just a one-year contract for his seventh consecutive season with the team, the 36-year-old Australian is already on notice by Red Bull’s tough Dr Helmut Marko. Now, Austrian Marko has made it clear that Red Bull was not happy with Webber’s driving at the 2012 Interlagos finale, when teammate Sebastian Vettel was fighting for the title against Ferrari‘s Fernando Alonso. Indeed, Flavio Briatore – still involved with the management of Webber’s career – said after Brazil: “The only one who helped Ferrari was Webber.” Marko’s take: “Mark was not optimally cooperative in Brazil.” Germany’s Sport Bild reports that while Toro Rosso’s Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne are obvious candidates to succeed Webber, Marko is also keen on Nico Hulkenberg. German Hulkenberg, 25, has signed just a one-year deal with Sauber for 2013, and has also been linked with a potential 2014 move to Ferrari. Marko confirmed: “A few years ago he was on the list of candidates for our junior team, but Nico already had a main sponsor [Dekra] from whom he didn’t want to separate.” Subbed by AJN. Let’s hope it happens as Hulkenberg to Red Bull would be a very wise career switch for Hulk rather than working with Ferrari as a bonded labourer knowing whom they prefer. McLarenfan Marko has spoken Webber is history and if I was Webber Flavio Briatore would be history as well the big mouthed BUFFOON gmt F2 Probably sensible thinking as Webber approaches retirement at this level. However, Marko likes to hear himself talk, especially in negative terms about Webber. I still cannot believe Marko’s ludicrous, myopic view of the Vettel/Webber crash in Turkey. What a manipulative clown! McLarenfan @gmt F2: I agree at the end of the day everyone bar Marko could see Seb swerved in to Webber. I still think Webber might carry on even if Marko gets his way and I am sure that Marko turns off webbers Kers. Matthias O’keeffe Replace Webber with Hulkenberg just to let Vettel be the clear number 1 again? Forget it, Marko… I would prefer to see Hulkenberg in a Ferrari than in your stupid car and in your stupid management..
