Caterham still considering 2013 driver options

Charles Pic (FRA) Marussia F1 Team in the Press Conference. Formula One World Championship, Rd18, Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Preparations, Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, UAE, Thursday 1 November 2012.Jan.4 (GMM) Caterham is not yet ready to announce its full 2013 driver lineup, although the team has already filled one of this year’s race seats with 2012 Marussia rookie, Frenchman Charles Pic.

Rumours on Thursday suggested that an announcement about his teammate was imminent, with Bruno Senna and Vitaly Petrov thought to be the front-runners.

Russian Petrov’s teammate last year was Finn Heikki Kovalainen.

As for Thursday’s rumblings about an imminent announcement, Finnish MTV3 commentator Oskari Saari said: “It was just a rumour then.

“Caterham [now] says [that] nothing [will be] announced in the foreseeable future as all options are still being explored.”

Heikki Kovalainen should keep his seat he has done a superb job with a car that has not lived up to its potential given how close the battle with The Marussia F1 Team has been with them not having Renault power or Kers but you have to say that it was Petrov who saved the team the embarrassment of losing their standing as the best of the new teams including the loss of revenue. Bruno Senna has had some real bad luck with Williams given that he had to sit out Friday morning I would say if he had the seat including race prep time he could be a dark horse and he has some backing, but it would be his last chance to show he has the right blood as well as his name.

Let’s not forget Gascoyne tried to persuade Kovalainen to even join Caterham at all promising him the car would only be 1.5 to 2 seconds slower right in the first year and Kova did decline offers from better teams, believing in that.

And now, after the 3rd year the gap is more than 4 seconds and Heikki has wasted his talent and this team is pretty much about to destroy his career!

So who’s showing a lack of respect!

And why is Gascoyne even remotely trying to have a big mouth?

The car he designed was absolutely non-competitive and when Caterham added one of the most highly-rated engineers in aerodynamics, John Iley, who had greatly helped build the title-winning McLarens for years, the caterham car was so misconstructed that even this McLaren “genius” couldn’t do anything about it…
