Kovalainen could replace Grosjean at Lotus

Heikki Kovalainen (FIN) Caterham F1. Formula One World Championship, Rd11, Hungarian Grand Prix, Preparations Day, Budapest, Hungary, Thursday 26 July 2012.Nov.28 (GMM) Heikki Kovalainen is being tipped as a candidate to replace the fast but inconsistent and incident prone Romain Grosjean at Lotus, according to Finnish broadcaster MTV3.

The highly rated Finn Kovalainen is on the market because Caterham is reportedly considering signing pay-driver Giedo van der Garde.

However, MTV acknowledged that Frenchman Grosjean, despite Lotus’ protracted deliberations and the 26-year-old’s numerous incidents in 2012, is “more likely” than Kovalainen to line up alongside Kimi Raikkonen next season.

But Germany’s authoritative Auto Motor und Sport said that there is truth behind reports that Lotus is seriously considering ousting Grosjean.

“Many suspect that Gerard Lopez will persuade Grosjean’s sponsor Total to spend more money,” read the report by correspondents Tobias Grunen and Michael Schmidt.

“But even Total has a problem with this protege. The French oil company has a safety campaign for public roads, and the face of a ‘crash driver’ doesn’t fit.”

    I really hope he will replace Grojean… He deserves the seat at Lotus…

  • Peter

    I hope Heikki becomes a Lotus driver :-)

  • Hawk

    22/24, only ahead of the HRTs.. what’s wrong with Lotus? what are they looking for?

  • Hank

    I hope that Lotus is smart and Heikki replaces Roman. Two cars scoring points is better…

  • Selvam

    Kovalainen with Kimi :)…. Two Finns in Lotus…. :) Wow…. That will be amazing….

  • Lol.

    @Hawk

    Heikki is only 22 because of a bad strategy call in Brazil. With Petrov ahead of both Marussias they put him on inters to gamble wet weather. If it had worked, they’d have scored points. It didn’t, and as a result he fell behind glock and pic.

    Lotus should take him, a great driver and a credit to F1. I will be very saddened to see him leave if he does. If not Lotus, he should go to Force India. Even timo glock said Caterham are fools to let someone like Heikki go, and i bet he probably got in trouble for that endorsement.

    @Hawk

    Do you even know anything about f1? Hekki is an amazing driver, he has more than proved himself with his stint at caterham. Its saddening to see him leave, he is such a consistent and matured driver. Lotus should sign him up and not inconsistent, immature grosjean. Besides raikonnen deserves a better team mate.
