Red Bull boss would replace Vettel with Alonso or Hamilton

That is the claim of the energy drink company’s mogul Dietrich Mateschitz, responding to claims that German Vettel could seek a new challenge after achieving so much with Red Bull.

In a rare interview about F1, on the eve of Vettel probably securing his third consecutive drivers’ title, Mateschitz told Salzburger Nachrichten that the 25-year-old is “one of the three best drivers” on the grid.

Referring also to Hamilton and Alonso, Mateschitz said Vettel “is the youngest of the three, and definitely there is potential for further development.

“Perhaps he is near his zenith in terms of the speed, but with more experience he can certainly keep getting better and better,” he insisted.

Mateschitz moved to play down rumours that Vettel is toying with a switch to Ferrari.

“There are not only contracts, but he is bound to us as well through loyalty and friendship,” he said.

“But that doesn’t exclude that he gets offers from other teams,” Mateschitz admitted.

Fascinatingly, he even said that he can understand Ferrari’s lure.

“If I was a driver, I would probably enjoy the thought of driving for Ferrari one day as well,” said Mateschitz. “It’s not only natural, but quite legitimate.

“If he should ever leave us, we would wish him well, and then nothing would stop Alonso or Hamilton driving for us.”

He will stay in red bull, Ferrari sucks at it.

Alonso drives for no soft drinks company, thank you!

Ferrari needs to hold onto Alonso as long as it can, as it’s not going to draw another top driver on its image alone. The company needs to get past it inability to build a dominant car. At best its cars have been third best for several seasons now. If they want to maintain their image as the superior Ferrari car company team, they need to back it up with a superior car. Updating its antiquated approach to drivers and internal politics would also not be such a bad thing.

I’m sure that Alonso is going to end his career driving for Ferrari. He despises that crappy energy drink team. No driver with any dignity and self-respect would ever drive for some Red Cow. Teams like the Red Cow come and go, but Ferrari will always be the benchmark team in F1. End of!

first the title is wrong as he is not speaking about replacing Vettel but finding another driver IF Vettel leaves them

second Alonso would never ever go to a team again where he needs to fight his teammate. He was to often beaten.

    @ Forza Ferrari

    Ooooh somebody is upseeeeeettt… :-)

C’mon man it was a good season. Maybe next year the bad luck omen (i.e. getting hit by others and retiring) will swing over to Sebs who knows. And IMO Fernando is the best driver that Ferrari can have. I think it’s better he ends his career with Ferrari.
