Perez signals interest in Ferrari for 2013 seat

Sergio Perez (MEX) Sauber in the Press Conference. Formula One World Championship, Rd7, Canadian Grand Prix, Race, Montreal, Canada, Sunday 10 June 2012.Aug.2 (GMM) Besides high-profile champions Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button, a host of eager candidates are also in the running to secure the second Ferrari seat next year.

That is the claim of the Blick and La Gazzetta dello Sport  newspapers, reporting that Raikkonen and Button are much more likely to stay with their current teams – Lotus and McLaren, in 2013.

According to Gazzetta, that leaves candidates like Nico Hulkenberg, Paul di Resta, Heikki Kovalainen and Kamui Kobayashi.

Another driver who this week has confirmed that he might be in the running is Sergio Perez, the young Mexican who already races a Ferrari-powered Sauber, and who is the cream of Ferrari’s driver development ‘academy’.

“If there is an opportunity with them [Ferrari] or another team, then it’s the time to know,” the 22-year-old was quoted on Wednesday by the Press Association.

I cannot see why Luca thinks Sergio lacks experience…sign the young talent, he’s a winner!!

  • f1 fan

ferrari just cant sign him staright away, because they are such an established and old team, they just cant risk it in the hands of a young driver, they would certainly looking for champions or maybe more experienced drivers !!

  • Forza Ferrari

Yea Perez would be great for Ferrari. If not him then Button would be a great choice as well.

  • Matthias O’keeffe

I think Michael would be the best choice to be Fernando’s teammate..

    kobayashi all the way

  • Nowhereman

Perez has some ways to go before he dresses in red.
He has potential this is true.
Massa will be there next season in a better car and show again he is fast.
No one from mid pack can win a race with the exception of Alonso on occasion.

Sergio would be a great fit for the Ferrari, I see him being a very happy number 2 driver and not complaining about it. If Ferrari does choose him we could see him thier for quite a while.

i totally 100% agree with nowhereman ferrari is got a junk of a car only alonso is able to handle it massa is still got pace the only problem is he is not got the clever mind like alonso who knows when to go fast and when to preserve it anybody on the other hand be it vettel or hamilton or button or webber or raikkonen or anybody of that league would just be equal to massa, give massa a lotus and watch the way he performs he will outclass anybody still maybe not alonso :)
