Grosjean: To be honest I am still on a high! 15 June, 2012 Romain Grosjean celebrates on the Montreal podium Jun.15 (Lotus) Fresh from a good Canadian Grand Prix weekend in Montréal, Romain Grosjean dropped in to Enstone earlier this week to catch up with the team. We caught up with the flying Frenchman to see if that trademark smile was still beaming just as bright after his sensational second place finish at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. It’s been a few days since the Canadian Grand Prix and you’re still grinning! Romain Grosjean: To be honest, I’m still on a high! It’s great to be here at Enstone and to see how positive and motivated the whole team is after a good result at the weekend. You can really see how hard everyone is working to push the car forward, and hopefully the performances we’ve had so far are giving the guys even more confidence in what we can achieve as a team. There were some great moments both during and after the race on Sunday; can you pick a favourite? RG: There were so many it’s hard to say! Two laps before then end when I passed Fernando [Alonso] and saw the gap stretching was a great feeling. Then it was crossing the line and having that warm down lap to allow it all to sink in and think about a great race. Of course, standing on the podium is pretty special too… but celebrating with the team was the real highlight for me. Getting out of the car and running over to the mechanics, seeing Ayao [Komatsu] my engineer and Eric [Boullier] in the paddock, the team photo later that evening… it was all a fantastic feeling. It all happens so quickly; one minute you’re in the car, the next thing you know hours have gone past and it’s time to hurry away for a quick shower before jumping on the plane home! You went along to James Allison’s traditional post-race debrief in the factory on Wednesday and got a round of applause from the whole team; that must have been a pretty special feeling… RG: It was crazy, for once I didn’t know what to say! I don’t just come to Enstone to work with the engineers; I also come to see all the people who aren’t with us when we travel to races. When we see the car up there on the podium it’s because of all the guys back at the factory and all the hard work they put in to constantly give us a little bit more on track. I wanted the chance to thank them, so it was great to have that opportunity this week. You were on the front page of L’Equipe earlier this week; is it strange to see yourself on the cover of newspapers and magazines? RG: For any French sportsman, to be on the cover of L’Equipe is a big honour. It’s one of the biggest newspapers in the country, so when I saw it I was really surprised! It’s like a dream and I’m very proud of it; I’ll be keeping that one for years to come! He seems humble and just appreciative. Seems honest. To me he going to be dangerous on the grid in years to come. Butterfly Yeah, I have to admit I like the guy. He has the skill, he’s polite, always smiling. But the most shocking thing is he’s a better qualifier than Raikkonen. I didn’t expect that. hillside he’s just making the most out of it. not a lot of drivers are given a chance to have a comeback in F1 specialy now in the age of pay drivers. gross polite but an idiot. i don’t think so. he will be more dangerous in the future as he is now because he is a mo ron. french fries head! Lol. @Gross Hilarious. Grosjean is outperforming Kimi. Enough said. f1 fan @ Gross, I wonder why he is so angry with grosjean. He surely is a fantastic driver and really fast in qaulifying, if wouldnt have made 3 DNF’s who knows how close he would be to the top guyz in the Championship table. seb really that grosjean is a french fries head! i agree with gross whatsyourpoint It is impressive that Gro is as fast as he is although, as always, youth is worth a couple tenths over a flying lap visz963 He was also outperforming Alonso on several occasions at Renault. hillside Romain out performing Kimi?? check again who has more points… Lol. @Hillside Yes indeed. The young pretender is less than 5 points behind a world champion with a team that have been rebuilding Kimi’s car after every race, and who seems only able to perform on the increasingly rare occasion where he is capable of looking after his tyres. Romain has a knack for hitting the wall, but in every race he’s finished he has performed well. Kimi has been great for half the races and totally lackluster for the other. I stand by my statement.
