Gene hails real leader Alonso as the best 1 June, 2012 Jun. 1 (GP247) Marc Gene has been a test driver with Ferrai since 2004 and has seen some huge talent at work for the Maranello squad, but he believes none are as complete as the current ‘team leader’ fernando Alonso. Gene, who accompanied Alonso to the opening of a Ferrari Store in Madrid, on Thursday said, “Now with Fernando I’ve been teammates with four World Champions: Schumacher, Raikkonen, Villeneuve in Le Mans, and now Fernando. I’ve always said it: he’s the most complete. He’s the best out of those who have competed against me or worked with me.” The Spaniard, who competed in 36 F1 races and made his debut at the 1999 Australian GP, explained, “He’s the best at making the most of difficult situations. And that’s why he is now the championship leader. He’s a real team leader too. That’s why we’re extremely privileged at Ferrari to have him with us and to be able to work with him.” “It’s one of the few brands in the world that, independent of who is driving, has always had many fans around the world. But now in Spain, with the success of Fernando and Ferrari, the fans have multiplied,” added the 38 year old Spaniard. Subbed by AJN. Andy – London Alonso made a bold statement at Canada in 2010 that he would be world champion and finish every race on the podium and was laughed off, but he very nearly took that title. Ferrari have a history of improving with Fernando from Canada onwards, but they are not usually in the strong position that Alonso is in. Fernando is driving these Ferraris like Michael did from 96-99, and is clearly the most gifted driver on the grid. Taz @ andy u are right ferrari usaly turn season around at this point from canada, except this time hes in a strong position leading the points. if it wasnt for pit strategy 2010 he well could have been wdc. any one know who eddie jorden is tipping to win the canadian gp?
