Mugello Day 1: McLaren report

May.1 (McLaren Press Release) Team report

Drivers: Oliver Turvey (am)/Gary Paffett (pm)
Location: L’Autodromo del Mugello, Scarperia, Italy
Track length: 5.245km
Weather: Overnight rain and morning fog caused a slow start to the day. The weather steadily cleared until lunchtime when heavy, driving rain returned for the remainder of the afternoon.
Laps completed: 30 (Oliver)/4 (Gary)
Kilometres covered: 157km (Oliver)/21km (Gary)
Best laptime: 1m25.303s (Oliver) at 12:50

Programme: Oliver began the week’s programme with a number of short, data-collection runs on slicks. The heavy rain at lunchtime meant that the scheduled driver changeover to Gary was less productive: the wet weather, coupled with circuit closures due to the low visibility, rendered meaningful running pointless. As a result, the team opted to end the day early and start preparations for tomorrow, when clearer weather is anticipated.

Driver for day two: Gary Paffett

Duration of test: Three days (May 1-3)
