Karthikeyan: One does not expect Vettel to be such a cry baby

Narain Karthikeyan has reacted to Sebastian Vettel's post-Malaysia comments

Mar.30 (Reuters) India’s Narain Karthikeyan has told Sebastian Vettel not to act like a ‘cry baby’ after the F1 champion called him a ‘cucumber’ for causing a collision at last weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix.

Narain Karthikeyan (IND) HRT Formula One Team HRT F112. Formula One World Championship, Rd2, Malaysian Grand Prix, Race, Sepang, Malaysia, Sunday 25 March 2012.

Narain had a good run in the HRT when rain drenched Sepang

Vettel, chasing his third successive title with Red Bull this season, finished 11th, and out of the points at Sepang after tangling with the HRT driver.

The 24-year-old German, now sixth overall and 17 points off the lead, directed his anger at Karthikeyan after the incident while team boss Christian Horner accused the Indian of ‘brain fade’.

“For a world champion to say things like that is really shameful,” Karthikeyan told India’s Hindustan Times newspaper. “It is really unprofessional.

“For a driver who has achieved so much to take out his frustrations on me just because he is having a difficult year is really sad. One does not expect a professional sportsman to be such a cry baby.”

Stewards decided Karthikeyan had caused the collision and handed him a drive-through penalty after the race which meant 20 seconds added to his race time.

However the Indian complained that his version of events had been ignored.

“They didn’t care about what I had to say because Mr Vettel told them God knows what when he went and talked to them,” he told the paper.

Karthikeyan, is best to keep your mouth shut. Now opening it, you have made yourself a target.
You did block a front runner when you’re not even near a point scoring position. Ignorant lil cucumber you are.
Many said that Vettel may have overreacted but I think anyone would have, in that position. We’re talking 4th position.
Karthikeyan, guess that you won’t know coz you’ve never been that high before. Don’t bother telling us how well you did in other forms of racing, this is F1.

Vettel not a fantastic driver.. Thanks to the Renault Engine that had good Engine mapping to blow the gasses perfectly for Red Bull. Cry baby?? I like this word.. Agreed with Karthikeyan,, FIA only heard the STAR complaint more than others,, Vettel is the FIA’s Asset.. Cry Baby Cry

    @ lol,

Nearly everyone in the paddock, apart from the Red Bull Team, has put this down to a racing incident, and accepted that Vettel is in the wrong. Even DC, an employee of Red Bull’s had stated that these things are unavoidable.

The problem here is not with the incident itself, so it has nothing to do with either Vettel’s or Karthikeyan’s racing abilities. It has to do with the fact that Vettel’s comments and general behavior outside of the car are an embarrassment, both to him as a double world champion, and to the sport as a whole.

I went back and rewatched the incident. Vettel was 98% past Karthikeyan, giving him plenty of space. A full car width between the Red Bull and the kerb. Then Karthikeyan moved out from the kerb clipping the rear of Vettel’s car.

    It was 100% Karthikeyan’s fault.

Karthikeyan has proven to be a slow driver, and the HRT a slow car. Vijay Mallya wouldn’t take him on as none of the Indian drivers were quick enough for him! Vettel was being rather restrained.

Vettel is a 2 time world champion. But for some reason I AM NOT JUST YET CONVINCE him as a true champion. He’s just good when he is leading the pack. Remember 2 years ago when he had his first championship(which Ferrari handed it to him), he just has this habit on crushing into everybody. The paddock even once called him the crash kid. And even with that, i don’t remember anyone called him an idiot, cucumber or the like. It’s just 2 races into the season and he’s now cracking under pressure. A true good driver is a driver that makes a bad car or bad circumstances look good. Vettel has not been more than on the 3rd row of the grid this year at the start.

Vettel is amazing, he’s the best driver after Michael Schumacher. Although we can admit that Alonso would crush him if he was in a Red Bull, but Karthikeyan needs to know how to drive a car first. Vettel will most likely finish 3rd behind Button and Hamilton/Alonso, either one of them coming fourth.

Perez had a good race surprisingly. :)

  • fawxx

    vettel needs to grow up.

fia needs to learn how to not be so blatantly biased.

karthikeyan needs to know how to put his point across during the next race, maybe by crashing in to vettel when lapping him or driving in to the redbull pitbox and retire there.

yeaaaah give it to him Narain!

All Vettel criticisers idiots, Karthikeyan punctured him from behind for no reason, Vettel is right to be upset. Karthikeyan should shut up and respect all driver in the best cars and not decide the championship with his erratic maneuvers. Idiot lamer.

If Alonso can toss the stewards after his own mistake, then I dont find Vettel too harsh for criticising others for runing his race with lame driving.

The Rodney Dangerfield of Formula 1

  • Zurf

Yeah.. Finally.. Vettel’s lover is coming (visz963).. Premature driving by Vettel.. Webber much better than him… Pity for the reigning WDC 2010 & 2011.. Such a cry Baby.. visz963, accept the reality, Alonso much better than your Vettel.. even Alonso drove in truck.. he can win the race,, ;p

    I agree with Ben

It’s normal for people to blame the “weaker” person, in this case people blame NK. SV could see that NK ran wide and tried to regain composure, so SV should have stayed a bit further when he overtook NK. Even if NK wasn’t about to be lapped down SV shouldn’t expect the same either.

The person CANT simply expect the back-ender to back off eventho it’s in the rules, coz back-enders can get cocky. SV should have expected the worse when overtaking a back-ender.

I’m not saying that it was SV’s fault, but he in some way could have avoided it.

Narian can’t even beat his own mate in 2005 with Jordan, Tiago Monteiro.
He didn’t do well in A1 GP.
Didn’t even get a drive in 2007 with Spyker coz he lost sponsorship from TATA.
Force India didn’t even let him test. Smart Vijay…..
Doubt he would get a drive next season.
2011 He did get a drive… but was again last several times beaten by his team mate Vitantonio Liuzzi & was replaced by Daniel Ricciardo.
That’s the sad summary of his unimpressive career.
Top drivers; Alonso, Button, Webber, Vettel, Schumi, Kimi & Hamilton.
    Narian isn’t period

Caroline Wozniacki, if that is really you :D (she was at the Abu Dhabi GP last year, so who knows). I have only one thing to say, “Hot women who like motorsports are even hotter!”
