Lotus E20 much better than 2011 car says Grosjean 13 February, 2012 Romain Grosjean with Kimi Raikkonen Feb.13 (GMM) Romain Grosjean is happy the early signs of his relationship with new teammate Kimi Raikkonen are positive and their new car – the Lotus E20 – is showing positive signs of competitiveness after the first tests in Spain. Last week, the newly-acquainted pair spent time at Jerez, where their new Lotus car was the surprise standout performer of the first pre-season test. Another “really pleasant surprise”, according to GP2 champion Grosjean, was “Kimi”. “It took a little time and I did wonder what kind of relationship we would develop, but I think he is a really nice guy. Whatever I have asked, he has answered.” Arguably more important, of course, is their black and gold car, and it set tongues wagging by proving the standout performer at Jerez. “It is definitely better than our one of last year,” Frenchman Grosjean is quoted by Finnish broadcaster MTV3. And he said both he and Raikkonen are likely to develop it in harmony. “I did not see anything strange,” said Grosjean when asked how his and Raikkonen’s driving styles compare, “the telemetry was nearly identical.” Also more than pleased is Lotus’ technical director, James Allison. “The best thing about the week was the drivers’ feedback,” he said. “We had not heard anything as positive in the last couple of seasons.” Tweet Related NewsVettel first Ferrari test not breach of contractYas Marina Test Day 1: Bottas tops as McLaren Honda flopsRed Bull play hardball block Vettel’s Ferrari testMcLaren-Honda aiming for Abu Dhabi testRed Bull confirm Sainz for Abu Dhabi testF3 champion Ocon impresses Ferrari in F1 testDTM champion Wittmann awarded Toro Rosso testFong and Nissany to test a Sauber in ValenciaF3 champion Ocon to test for LotusMcLaren planning private Honda tests? Evel Great news! I really hope Lotus do well this season, in fact I’m hoping that the season goes like a fairy tale and Kimi comes away with the title. Grosjean seems like a really nice guy and I’ve always liked Allison so I hope they find success this year. I’ve never liked Boullier or Lux so this used to be my least favourite team but now with Kimi on board I’ll be supporting them. There was a lot of critism directed at Lotus at the launch of the E20 – it’s too conservative, too bulky at the back, it looks almost identical to last years car bar the nose – I was also one of those thinking that the car was too plain but the early signs are that the E20 will be a fast car. Red Bull seem to be keeping a close eye on it.
