Jan.31 (Reuters) Former Force India Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil was found guilty of bodily harm by a Munich court on Tuesday and given an 18-month suspended sentence and $260,000 fine for a night club brawl in China last year.

The German, who has yet to find a race seat this year, was found guilty of injuring Eric Lux, chief executive of Renault F1 team owners Genii Capital, in a Shanghai nightclub after the Chinese Grand Prix, Judge Christiane Thiemann said.

Lux needed stitches for a neck wound. The Renault team has since been renamed Lotus and Force India have already announced Germany’s Nico Hulkenberg as Sutil’s replacement. Sutil had told the court on the first day of proceedings on Monday he had repeatedly apologised to Lux and denied it was his intention to hurt him but rather to throw a drink in his face.

The fine will be paid to charities.

    18 months…that’s a lot of time…but i’m sure, he will be a good boy..:-)

    Will we see Adrian Sutil back on the F1 grid? After his court case I don’t think many sponsorship deals are going to be forthcoming.

    That’s real bad news! I was hoping for a resolution & not a career ending decision! Out of all the people, I would still find it hard to believe that Sutil might’ve been aggressive! On Youtube, there is a video of his girly run at a certain Canadian Grand Prix! By seeing his run, he seemed quite timid! He was 1 of my favourite drivers & he shall be missed! All the best Dear Adrian because seems like bad luck is following you & hopefully, there would be a chance to show your true talent to the motoring world!

    good luck adrian………u’ll be missed in f1….if nt 4 odrs,atleast 4 me……

    I will accept all the criticism I have gotten for defending Adrian, and I will still hold my ground. Obviously Lux started the entire event, got what he deserved, and Lux keeps his job… Lux should be suspended as well or we will possibly see a repeat of this down the line with other parties involved. F1 is extremely hard to get into and this tactic can be used again to remove a driver from the grid in favor for another driver to get a seat.

    @Stewy33
    Well said bro

    I’ll miss Sutil too, he’s a really underrated, very talented driver.
    Force India should really be thanking him for allowing them to finish 6th last season.
    As much as I like Sutil and am disappointed that he was found guilty because it sounds like it was accidental I can’t agree with you on that Stewy33 – no words are strong enough to justify physical harm.

  • Mattyp

    Whats the full story here? What was the fight about? What did Lux do? Stewy can you divulge…

    @Stewy33:

    ‘Lux should be suspended as well or we will possibly see a repeat of this down the line with other parties involved.’

    You’re joking, right?

    Sutil had it coming.

    Latest news: Medion to sponsor Hulkenberg….ouch

    Lux was probably VIP and Adrian wasnt
    Adrian shouldve just opted for a Zidane style head-butt…not that I would condone any violence. The neck is a dangerous place for a glass massage
